  • Boolean Searching: AND/OR/NOT : Limiting within a component, or, what the '+' and '-' mean

    Limiting your search is possible within the search components in these three ways (see also figure below) :


    Using the plus (+) button, open another box to search for records containing both words or phrases.


    Click the minus (-) button on the left of the plus button to exclude a word or phrase from your search. The box turns red when this option is activated.


    The arrow to the immediate right of the search box activates the 'OR' search option for searches that are seeking EITHER the first OR second word or phrase.


    Although the example here is a Keyword search this applies to all search elements except those where you are required to simply 'tick a box'. Expatriate or translation are examples of this.
