The poem ends 'panie janie panie janie/wszystkie dzwony biją' [mr jan mr jan/all the bells are ringing], a reference to the French nursery rhyme 'Frère Jacques' which is translated into Polish as 'Panie Janie' ('Mr John'). The poem's title also relates to the song. The dedicatee's name is Jan.
