BlackWords aims to be as inclusive as possible (see Scope) to represent the wide diversity of cultural and creative fields and genres in which Indigenous writers and storytellers in Australia work. At a minimum, BlackWords will include biographical information about Australian writers publicly identifying with particular Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander heritages, as well as descriptive information about their works. BlackWords also includes information on storytellers and their work even if they have not had work published.

Records on BlackWords describe published and unpublished books, stories, plays, poems, and criticism associated with eligible writers and storytellers. BlackWords includes works in English, in Australian languages, and in translations.

We welcome updates from authors, publishers, and others. Please contact us if you can help ensure that BlackWords is up-to-date and comprehensive.
