AbstractHistoryArchive Description

The poem evokes memories of the Tyśmienica river, where the poet's father, an engineer, built fascines to strengthen the river banks. It goes on to recall sympathetically how peasants from the nearby Carpathian mountains, from the ethnic group 'Łemkowie' (Lemkos), would try to smuggle salt drawn from their own land past the local Polish policeman patrolling the bridge.
