The poem is about a visit to the former house of Mme de Warens, Jean-Jacques Rousseau's lover and mentor, in the village of Les Charmettes, near Chambery, France. It pokes fun at French tourists from Chambery. The final line reveals that the poem is addressed to Rousseau.
