Author's note: Anger when used constructively is one of my best motivations. Each time when I thought of the white feminist movement I became incensed about their exclusion of Black women, knowingly or subconsciously. One of my main sounding boards was in fact a white feminist and the mother of an Aboriginal girl. Kate Harvey is the woman I would attribute this piece to. For it was Kate who believed in my brand of feminist politics and knew that a response to the dominant kind was well overdue and necessary. We would talk for hours about the messages and feelings that I wanted established without being over-emotional. I consider this article (written in 1990) to be one of the strongest works that I have ever written (p. 25).
