(p. 8)O'Hara finds the fossicker Marne wounded by a spear. With the old man's dying words O'Hara discovers the whereabouts of a gold discovery which the fossiker wants to leave to his son. O'Hara consequently forms a plan to steal the land by asking Rodney to impersonate the son.
