'Early in the 22nd century Michael Orr is a man of the Circle. The Circle encompasses millions of peaceful, prosperous people. After his wife's death from polygenic cancer a near suicidal Orr is sent by the Circle hierarchy to investigate a ring of strange 'Walls' on planets at the edge of the galaxy. His path crosses the innately dangerous Ward Jenner also interested in the walls but with a different agenda and Hart Amar a scientist with many secrets. Together they strive to understand the strange constructions while unwittingly bringing humankind closer to disaster.'
