Grimes and Sonya embark on a wholly different adventure: marriage. But running their own little shipping company takes a back seat to danger when a distress call leads the pair to an alien ship from an alternate universe—a ship carrying contraband from otherspace— mutant rats which evolved to rule their universe...and threaten to breakthrough to ours. This deadly cargo threatens to sheer through the fabric of reality, like a knife through soft butter.
Notes
-
Several websites, including The Internet Speculative Fiction Database and Steve Davidson's Chandler tribute site Rimworlds (http://www.rimworlds.com) incorrectly record that Contraband from Otherspace was previously titled 'Edge of Night.' These are, however, two entirely different Rim Worlds stories. The narrative of 'Edge of Night' (aka 'The Man Who Couldn't Stop') follows the exploits of the character Clavering, while Contraband from Otherspace is a John Grimes and Sonya Verril adventure. Indeed, Chandler had not invented Grimes at the time of writing 'Edge of Night' in 1958.
