Ellen Jose an Indigenous artist and photographer is an descendant from Murray, Darnley and Horn Islands. Ellen had completed a Certificate of Applied Art at Seven Hills Art College, Brisbane in 1976, and subsequently moved to Melbourne with her husband. In 1978, she completed a Diploma of Fine Art at Preston Institute of Technology, and was awarded a Diploma of Education from Melbourne State College in 1979. After graduating, Ellen worked for the Victorian Aboriginal Education Service, and as a lecturer at the Monash University from 1986, and at the Deakin University from 1991 to 1994. In 1996, Ellen was appointed to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Board of the Australia Council.
