1 1 y separately published work icon Shadows under Her Shoes Rion Schaare , Brisbane : Post Pressed , 2013 Z1922252 2013 single work novel 'Shadows Under Her Shoes is a reflexive narrative. Through the character of Maali we follow her journey as she explores her emotional landscape which is heavily founded on her relationships with her parents.

Maali marks the difference between herself and the nexis for how she manages to depart, particularly from her mother's emotional mores, and how she holds onto those elements which work positively for her in her life.

Maali's life journey, her Lebenslauf, begins in a post war, post holocaust, post cold war Berlin. Berlin is rebuilding itself and so are the people who have experienced its demolition.

Through conversations with her friends in real time and those that arrive from a dead friend, Maali's overarching atmosphere for having a good life is superimposed on all that happens. The work embraces the ideals for living a life of substance.' (Source: http://events.whittlesea-leader.whereilive.com.au/events/rion-pym-schaare-shadows-under-her-shoes#.UTKtUjCnpkg)

'The slim figure of Jill Murphy became a silhouette against the brightness of the harvest day.

She came to him through the people. Fragile, but stunningly beautiful, in a black dress. Fair hair hung on her shoulders, and her eyes were huge and tragic.

Don moved forward to assist her to climb the steps, and face the gathering.

'I am sure many of you remember me,' she began, in a strong voice, with a slightly 'old school' inflection. 'I'm Jill Murphy. I am Brian Murphy's daughter.'

Everyone in the RSL hall knew that Jill Murphy, daughter of the biggest landholder in the South-East, had run away with a lawyer who worked on her father's property.

Now Brian Murphy was dead. He had been laid to rest in a private funeral in the cemetery at the end of town. Father Mahoney had chosen Don Marr, whose farm adjoined the Murphy acres, to give a Valedictory speech. There would be no bullshit from Don.

Someone gave a small, hesitant cheer, and someone clapped. Then a roar shook the rafters "Jill! Wlecome! Welcome Home!"' (Publisher's blurb)
