BiographyHistory

Lazarus Lamilami belonged to the Muang people, on South Goulbourn Island of the north-west coast of Arnhem Land. Lamilami was taught the religious songs and stories of his people as he grew up. When Lazarus Lamilami was was a young child the Methodist Church established a mission on the island. He went to school at the mission and gained skills in carpentry. Lamilami participated in mission life and began teaching and preaching. In 1967 he was ordained as a minister in the Church. Lazarus Lamilami wrote an autobiography called Lamilami Speaks.
