Dorothy Spider was born near Napier Downs Station, in the Kimberley region of Western Australia. She learnt the skills related to working stock from her father and worked on a number of other pastoral stations including Kimberley Downs, Dodnun, Mount Elizabeth, Fitzroy Crossing and Halls Creek.
