BiographyHistory

Vincent Bear was born on Napier Station, in the Kimberley region of Western Australia. He has worked as a stockman and was taught the necassary skills by his father and other male members of his extended family.

Bear's early life was spent in the bush where he was educated about cultural matters. He went to school for a few years in Derby during the 1960s but after the school closed he returned to work as a stockman. In 1971 he moved to Mowanjum where Bear became the local busdriver after he got his licence.

Bear has been a singer, songwriter and perfomer of songs about station life and has also been in a band called the Limestone Cowboys which was named after the limestone ranges in Ngarinyin Country.
