BiographyHistory

Jean Rankine, a Ngarrindjeri Elder, was involved in the resurgence of teaching in Indigenous languages in schools in the 1970s. Rankine was born at Raukkan, formerly known as Point McLeay Mission, in South Australia. She also lived at Point Pearce for a few years in her childhood, before returning to Raukkan. Rankine worked in schools, teaching language and culture to Ngarrindjeri children. She has also worked in the Council Chambers in Raukkan. Her husband, Henry Rankine (q.v.), has served as Chairman of Raukkan Council.
