In her lifetime, Dolly Butler has naturally given birth to ten children. Her parents were Talandji people and she is Baijungu. Her father was Charlie Fenelle the head stockman of Wandagee Station. Dolly would mind the station owner's children when she was young. At eighteen years old Dolly was given away by her father to another stockman Paddy Cashen who was working on Cardabia Station. Dolly lost a son to alcohol and is against heavy drinking. For dolly, being paid in clothes and food for her work as a young wife was a system that she accepted. Her husband died from blood poisoning in a timber accident. In 1988, Dolly assisted Peter Austin, a linguist from La Trobe University in compiling a dictionary of the Baijungu language.
