Martin Dodd was born at Todmorden Station and was removed from his family along with his two brothers at a young age. Dodd was sent to Colebrook Home where he lived until he was fourteen. Dodd then returned to his country and worked as a stockman for about ten years without salary. At the age of thirty he was reunited with his father. Dodd has also worked as an opal miner.

Dodd's story was recorded by the National Library of Australia for the Bringing Them Home oral history project and appeared in the associated publication Many Voices: Reflections on experiences of Indigenous child separation, edited by Doreen Mellor and Anna Haebich (2002).
