BiographyHistory

May Smith lived in a dormitory on Fraser Island until she was seven when the Fraser Island Mission was closed and its peoples were removed, many, like May Smith, to Yarrabah Mission. Smith married in 1919. She and her husband were madeto stay at the Mission because of fears that they might run away if allowed to live in Gunumburru. Smith finally left Yarrabah in 1948. Her husband died in 1960.

Smith's cousin is Jinnie Stewart and her niece is Vida Harris (q.v.).
