Lakefield's biological father was Victoriano Blanco, a South Sea man from Cowal Creek, but his mother's husband when he was born, was Old Man Albert Tableland, a Lamalama man. His father's country was at William Island and Jane Table Hill.

Lakefield had a long career as a stockman and horse breaker, working on Starcke, St Ronans, Olive Vale, Fairlight, King Junction and other stations. He moved to Hopevale in the 1960s, married and had five children. Lakefield was active in the fieldwork and hearings of the Lakefield and Cliff Islands National Parks land claims. He also appeared in the film Dhuway, a documentary about the forced dispersal of the Yiiduwarra from their homelands, and the struggle for their return. (Lamalama Country (2006) p.viii-ix)
