Ben Ward, a Mirriwung man, was born and grew up on Argyle Station, near Kununurra, Western Australia. He attended school for a short time at Lombadina Catholic Mission, near Broome and later the Kimberley Research Station government school. After leaving school Ward began working as a stockman living in the camps around Kununurra and later Vesty's Mistake Creek, where he also he got married. Ward has been involved with the Mirima Council.
