Alma Woods is an Elder from the City of Albany in the Great Southern Region of Western Australia. She is the daughter of Charlie Innel from Augusta and mother Nina Wells, who lived in Minnigew, but was also from around the Mullewa area in Yamaji country.
Woods was born on a Noongars' reserve, but later moved to a farm where her parents worked for a white farmer called Cleve Moir. She had two sisters and at the age of seven the family moved to Gnowangerup Mission. The family lived in a humpy and was brought up on traditional bush tucker, however her mum used to make loaves of bread from a brick oven her husband made for her. Alma remembered seeing the old people performing corroborees in the Noongar way, christmas food being handed out by Brother and Sister Wright and the sports carnivals they held each year on the mission. At the age of sixteen she married John Woods and had her first child.
