BiographyHistory

'Derek Nannup graduated from Cecil Andrews Senior High School, Armadale, Western Australia in 1988. It was at school that Derek showed his natural aptitude for theatre, circus, music and dance. From 1988 to 1992 Derek performed with Clowning Around clowning troupe, regularly appeared on Channel 7's Telethon, performed in Christmas pageants, at hotels and special functions and taught and performed circus with various groups.

Derek has also starred in three ABC radio plays - No Sugar, Dreamers and "Land Lovers". He toured with the West Australian Theatre Company for the stage play "Moorli and the Leprechaun" and performed alongside Stephen "Baamba" Albert in "Wahngin Country". An accomplished didgeridoo player, he played for Burnam Burnam in 1992 and at various other celebrations and functions. Derek became a talented dancer and toured France in 1992 with the Nyoongah Dance Troupe. He has also appeared at the Fly by Night Club, Fremantle, made various appearances for fund raising and community events, toured with Yirra Yaakin Theatre Group and retained his circus skills by training with Circus Oz in Melbourne and teaching Aboriginal children these same skills. In 2007 Derek was Associate Director of Yirra Yaakin.'
