BiographyHistory

Dirimera was one of two Aboriginal boys, the other being Conaci (q.v.), chosen by Rosendo Salvado (q.v.) to become Australia's first Indigenous Benedictine monks. The boys began their Christian education at New Norcia, Western Australia, and then accommpanied Salvado to Spain and Italy. Conaci died during their time in Italy and, becoming depressed, Dirimera returned to Western Australia. He remained in poor health and died in 1855, aged seventeen.
