Author's note: ‘Anyhow Poem’ quotes my own loose translation of a line from Heinrich Heine’s Deutschland. Ein Wintermärchen (the first two lines of the last stanza in Caput X) and is referring to Anna Mendelssohn’s Implacable Art with ‘loan me your limousine’ and ‘word-work’. Other more general and imprecise allusions are to Cy Twombly’s painting (especially Mary Jacobus’ interpretation of these paintings) and Seferis’ ‘Three Secret Poems’.
