AbstractHistoryArchive Description

'This Journal will contain the latest news of local interest, up to the hour of publication, and copious extracts, carefully selected, from the European papers, relative to the War and its progress, and other important subjects.

'The Mining Interests will be carefully studied, and full reports respecting the mines and miners, from "our own Mining Reporter," as well as extracts from the various mining papers, will be inserted in each issue.

'It is intended to make this New Journal a faithful chronicle of passing events, an extensive circulation is expected on the Goldfields, as well as in the agricultural districts where the Bendigo Advertiser has already a large circulation.

'Agencies have been established in this colony, at Epsom, Eagle Hawk, Lockwood, Heathcote, Castlemaine, Ballaarat, Maryborough and Melbourne.'

Notes

  • For publication history, including details of mergers, etc, see: http://handle.slv.vic.gov.au/10381/44182
  • Some sources give a start date of 1853 for the Weekly Advertiser. This date may have been confused with the start date of the Advertiser's sister paper, the Bendigo Advertiser (1853- ). It seems clear from the advertisement in the Bendigo Advertiser in March 1856 (see above) that the Weekly Advertiser is about to commence publication at that time.
