Alternative form of first line: 'Oh Austral Land, my home land far away in the Southern Sea,'

It is not entirely clear who wrote this poem. It appears in Harold's Diary, where it is attributed to V.J. Whittington. However the poem also appeared (untitled) in the Sydney Mail in March 1918, accompanying an extract from a letter written by Gunner W. G. Millard. The poem subsequently appeared in the Traralgon Record on 27 June, 1918, where it was attributed to 'Gunner Willard'.
