Notes

  • Steampunk note: Though they lack some of the features often taken as key to steampunk, the stories in the Extraordinaires series nevertheless warrant the label as they fit easily into a less exclusionary framework, such as the one proposed by Carol Ryles in Steampunk : Imagined Histories and Technologies of Science and Fantasy. This is because their setting is a magical pseudo-Victorian world in which anachronism and the presence or re-imagined past events and figures play an important role.
