Epigraph: 'This colony has shot away its money in Champagne, and other useless articles.' - Speech of his Excellency Sir George Gipps, in Council, 9th September, 1842.
"It was my graudmother's opinion," said old John Tobias, "and I won't." "But I offer you," said the other, "two and a half per cent, per month for the use of your money; is it not enough?" "I tell you again," replied the old Jew philosopher, "that it was my grandmother's opinion, that when we exclaim against the price of labour we can ill afford to pay heavy interest for money; so you shall have none of mine."
