AbstractHistoryArchive Description

'A publication has just issued from the Glasgow press ...The tourist is a Mr Russell, who - in what capacity it is not stated - visited Adelaide, Hobart Town, Sydney, Port Phillip, and New Zealand, in the course of last year, and was induced by his friends to give to the public the result of his observations on the actual and comparative merits of these several colonies as fields for emigration. The work is one of very little pretension in a literary point of view, but the writer seems to be a rather acute observer, and, not with standing the shortness of his stay in each locality, he seems to have arrived at conclusions for the most part surprisingly correct...'
