Notes

  • Editor's note: In forwarding the following lines from Gallipoli, S. J. Lake, 3rd Battalion, 1st Infantry Brigade, writes:- 'I found amongst some dead men's effects the enclosed verse, which I copied. It was enclosed in an unaddressed envelope together with a spray of leaves, a sprig of wattle, an ivy, and a gum leaf. It was evidently meant for postage later on. Beyond the initials there was nothing to show to whom it belonged. I am no judge of verse, but send it along in case it may be of interest to the Mail and its readers.'
