Author's note: 'After Thomas, and D.S. Campbell'
-
Epigraph: 'The apathy of the Match Committee in arranging practice games had already been strongly animadverted upon in his hearing, and he believed in that of others. In no country in the world was cricket more supported than in Victoria, and it was a burning disgrace if the eleven chosen did not do all in their power to render themselves thoroughly capable of meeting the Sydney players, and also show that they were bent upon winning. If they did not shape at once, a good whopping would assuredly await them, and serve them right.' - Mr. S.D. Campbell's speech at the meeting of the Cricket Committee.
