The story of Sally Dingo's father, Max Butler, a Prisoner of War (POW) in World War II and of his post war experience until his early death, still reticent about his time as a POW, when his daughter was twelve years old. The biography includes the memories of Max Butler's contemporaries, where Sally Dingo's own knowledge of her father's personal experiences are unknown, and the story of her grandfather, Mort Butler, who served in World War I.
