Notes

  • This address in verse form was delivered on 20 May 1843 by Francis Nesbitt at the opening of Joseph Simmons's Royal City Theatre, Sydney.
  • The address was the winner of a literary competition conducted by the proprietors of the Royal City Theatre. Candidates were asked to enter contributions under a cipher or initial. The winning author won free admission to the Theatre's season.

    According to the Sydney Morning Herald there were twelve candidates. Eight of the unsuccessful addresses were published in the Herald, 25 May 1843 p. 4.
