This, the seventeenth in a series on pioneers and explorers, tells of Ernest Giles. He was born in Bristol England, came to Victoria and joined the gold rush, became a clerk, then joined an exploration of Central Australia. He named Mount Olga. In 1875 he crossed from South to Western Australia. There is also a paragraph about Tietkins who conducted a survey of Yorke's peninsula for the Government of South Australia.
