Arguably the longest-running anthology series on television, the Hallmark Hall of Fame, which first aired in 1951, presents both television dramatisations of famous plays and books and original programs especially written for the series.

Originally broadcast by NBC beginning in 1951, the show was titled Hallmark Television Playhouse for its first two seasons. It has been broadcast by the CBS Network since 1979.

The series has won or been nominated for more than forty awards (for individual programs and performances), including Directors Guild of America Awards, Emmy Awards, and Golden Globes.

The show began as a live program, then switched to videotape in the 1960s and finally to film (and on-location filming) in the early 1970s. The productions have ranged in length from ninety minutes through to three hours.

Larry, a palm tree farmer in the Australian outback, learns that his ex-wife has died, and that his daughter Lara is coming to live with him. He wants things to work out, but Lara has a rocky time with Larry's new wife Gladwyn, and their eldest daughter Pearl, as well as Gowd, a school bully. But with the help and love of her father, her new younger sister Opal, and a dog named Thunderwith, Lara begins to find the resources she needs to make a home with this new family.
