A young bush farmer meets the supposed ideal of his life when he changes a sophisticated town girl's flat tyre. He goes to Sydney, makes good, rises to the position of an accountant, then re-meets the city girl and finds his true ideal is the bush girl on the farm next door.
An intelligent counter girl wary of attachments because her dead sister was a single mother eventually accepts an invitation from a young customer who always leaves with a puzzling silent farewell. Then illness and a posting separate them for 6 months when both think they have been deserted. After a mutual snub at re-encounter he steps in front of a lorry and in the crisis her hostility crumbles. A happy ending is ensured when she eventually learns his farewell words.
