'Photographic books are an important resource in a baby's reading development. Unlike illustrated books where the imagination is required to process the pictures, photographs are from the familiar world of the everyday and are more easy for a child of around 6 months to focus on and identify with. Both illustrated and photographic books are important, but each can develop different skills; in photographic books - ideas of recognition, familiarity, and an understanding about the world around the baby begins to develop. Smart Babies is a great new series of photographic board books that will help in developing these visual skills. All four books in the series are focused on the day-to-day routines of babies and toddlers, told visually through photos of baby animals. In Mummy's Little Bush Babies the bond between a mother and her baby is explored, Mummy's Little Zoo Babies is about the developing abilities, personality and features of a baby and Little Bush Babies takes the reader through the day in the life of a baby - waking up in the morning through to bed time in the evening. Finally in Mummy's Little Farm Babies the simple text and images focus on friendship. We see how a baby learns to relate to the world around him or her.
