An old man, having lost his ability to speak after a stroke, has retired to a half-built, empty villa at his daughter's urging. He is visited and assaulted regularly by schoolboys, led by one he nicknames Quicksilver; he cannot seek help because of his mutism. Seeking a conclusion to their battles, he hires a car, planning to hit and disable Quicksilver.
