Perth on Tuesday evening last, [9 July, 1839] before a crowded audience-principally the friends of the gentlemen and ladies who favored us with this amusing novelty. The place selected for the performance was Leeder's large room...' The play performed was Love a la Militaire (1834). The program was printed 'on stone-coloured silk by Charles Macfaull at the Perth Gazette office'. (Source: Treasures of the Battye Library exhibition catalogue record.) Letters and columns for and against theatrical performance in the Colony were published in subsequent issues of the Gazette.
