Infusing the stories, songs, shared histories, and contemporary realities of Yanyuwa, Garrwa, Mara and Kudanji women, Big Women from Borroloola reflects on the diversity of experiences and the enormouse change brought about by colonisation. The film also explores women-specific knowledge of Yanyuwa law, cultural practices, post-contact history and the generational links between the women of the community.

This documentary film is part of the Big Women from Borroloola project undertaken by the Yanyuwa Aboriginal community at Borroloola, situated in the south west of Carpentariai (Northern Territory). Instigated by the senior Yanyuwa women following the death of several of their peers ca 2007/2008, the project serves to both celebrate the experiences and role women play in the community and to document their knowledge so as to safeguard it for future generations.
