Admiral Claythorne and his daughter, Sally, depart Sydney for a short cruise in the Golden Dawn. When shipwrecked with other travellers and crew on a Pacific island, they endure the hardships of island subsistence, including an encounter with an indigenous tribe. They are rescued by the crew of a Norwegian clipper.
