'The earliest complete number of the Victoria Songster seen is held by the Public Library of Victoria, being part 5 of the second edition (1860). An incomplete copy of part 4, dated 1856, is bound with the Barry O'Neil Songster and held by the Mitchell Library...The date and publication of the parts has been ascertained from newspaper advertisements. Part 1 was first mentioned in the Argus, May 1855, and again advertised in the Courier of the Mines (Bendigo), 8 September 1856. Part 4 was offered for sale in October of the same year. In 1857, parts 2, 3, and 4, were advertised in the Bendigo Advertiser...The contents of the Victoria Songster are listed on the back cover of part 5 and also at the end of part 1 of the Colonial Songster (1859).
