'Adhering to the demands of integrity and having research attitudes rooted in moral sensibilities are of paramount importance for academics, researchers, and writers. Publishing etiquette requires them to invest adequate time and energy in conducting research and writing manuscripts and thus to produce beneficial knowledge. Putting together a document hastily and avoiding the much-needed effort in research and writing lead to negative outcomes. The corrupt practice of plagiarism and the desire for recognition through fraudulent and duplicitous publications are marked by deliberate deceptiveness. It debases the plagiarists, stagnates their intellectual growth, and vitiates the academic environment. Highlighting this observation, in this essay I shall discuss some dimensions and significance of publishing etiquette. I shall argue that attitudes and behaviours of researchers and academic practitioners determine the quality of the words and works that they produce.' (Publication summary)

'Unlike in the case of verbal communication, prior to submitting a written work for publication authors have the opportunity to edit and revise it multiple times. They can revisit it again and again in order to enhance its content and polish its language. Once they submit their ‘final’ draft to a journal, editors and reviewers evaluate and assess its merit and suitability. If a manuscript is accepted, they help further revise, refine, and make it ready for production. In addition to this editorial concern for the quality of research, in this essay I shall explore the questions of authorship, authorship fraud, and other related concerns. The discussion here is primarily driven to stress the importance of maintaining ethical standards in publishing, especially those related to authorship credit.' (Publication summary)

y separately published work icon Asiatic Digital Trends in Language and Literature : Asia and the 21st Century vol. 15 no. 1 June 2021 22092014 2021 periodical issue 'This special issue of Asiatic, themed Digital Trends in Language and Literature : Asia and the 21st century, was born in the context of International Conference on Language and Literature 2020 (ICLL 2020) organised at International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM)on 15-17January 2020. The conference was a collaboration between IIUM and Western Sydney University (WSU), Australia, and was also supported by Jinan University, Guangzhou, China. The event attracted a total of one hundred regular paper submissions, focusing on numerous contemporary and emerging topics related to language and literary digitalisation in Asia. The conference was held, fortunately, just before the COVID-19 pandemic struck the world. From that time until the publication of this issue, the world has undergone a sweeping digital transformation in the way people and institutions interact and operate in their daily lives. In a way, the theme of the conference in January 2020 serves as a harbinger of the shift to online and digital platforms, which are becoming progressively normalised in the wake of the COVID-19 viral attack worldwide.' He is also an ardent champion of Asian literature who has been at the forefront of literary representations of Australian-Asian interactions and has shown an extensive understanding of Asian cultures both in his creative and critical works.Together with Edwin Thumboo and late Bruce Bennett, he has been a driving force behind the Biennial Symposium on Literature and Culture in the Asia-Pacific Region, which began in 1982 and has been taking place since every two years in different countries of the region, two of which (2009, 2017) were, indeed, hosted by the same institution where Asiatic is also housed, International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). Moreover, he came to IIUM as a visiting professor in 2018.' (Honouring Dennis Haskell : A Poet and an Amigo of Asiatic and Asian Literature, editorial introduction)

'Theatre in Asia is a bafflingly complex and diverse art, reflecting the enormous diversity of the continent itself. It is difficult to speak of an “Asian” theatre as a unified or even vaguely homogenous form, and the articles in this issue speak to that diversity and complexity. Covering theatrical forms mainly from India and Southeast Asia, these articles cover a variety of subjects from traditional texts and performances to contemporary, hybrid forms, to the influence of the global economy.'
