'" Cake" is a culinary tour-de-force of passion and pavlova. Indulge your senses as Astrid Pill and Zoe Barry get elbows deep in the stuff of life to cook up a deliciously dizzy melange of loss, recovery, seduction, satire and serenade. "Cake" blends sumptuous wordplay, physicality, gentle audience interaction and music
Amid clouds of flour, Astrid leads us by the nose through stirring experiences of appetite, fullness, pregnancy, desire, emptiness and into the absurdity, pain, mess and escapism of romantic love. Her longing is traced out on the hard wood of her kitchen table, immersing you in the folds of fancy and recollection. All the while, Zoe (a multi-instrumentalist who has scored more than 30 productions) performs lush musical accompaniment on squeezebox accordion that is as richly textured as the finest European pastry.'
