Note to the poem reads: 'Truth of 9 March 1919, reported Mr E. Notley Moore, P.M., as declaring that when a man married a woman he was not bound to support her if she was able to work.
"Shaun", a Truth scribe, replied in verse, in which he san the praises of the said Notley, since the P.M. showed him how he could dispense with his wife's services. This poem was written in reply to "Shaun".'
