Author's note: Luther had been to the Diet of Worms to defend his cause; while returning home, he was seized by masked emissaries of Frederick, and taken to the castle of Wurtemberg, where he was confined ... The following lines were written after having been shown a snuff box made out of the bedstead on which he reposed while in the above-mentioned castle.
