AbstractHistoryArchive Description

The book is a compilation of stories, observations and reminiscences from Aboriginal people who took part in radio programs made by Ros Bowden and Bill Bunbury for the Social History Unit of the ABC. These stories describe Aboriginal people's experiences of 'life in white Australia'. The messages are insightful and the words highlight the experiences of struggle, detemination, removal from family, education, survival, kinship and abuse of power by authorities.

  • Individual life stories have been fully indexed where possible. A number of people were involved in each of the Being Aboriginal programs, but in this book the compilers have not attempted to identify each speaker separately. See pp 2-3 of Being Aboriginal (1990) for a list of those who took part.
