Censorship notes:

Consolidated Press Limited was charged before H.J. Coombe S.M., in the Adelaide Police Court, with having distributed an indecent advertisement for 13 French Street. In the course of his judgement Mr. Coombe commented on the fact that the original form of the book had been passed by Customs and said that he could only charitably assume that the scrutineers of the Customs Department had not read beyond the first two or three pages. The case for the prosecution was presented on the grounds that the book as a read as a whole the book was plainly and blatantly obscene.

It was only after the company was convicted and fined that the book was passed to the Literature Censorship Board for review, which prohibited it.
