'In reference to my poem on the 'Creation', I wish to state I composed the subject whilst a resident in Warrnambool in the year 1872. In 1874, by the advice of many friends I had it published in Melbourne.' - Preface to The Creation : an epic poem to which is added as an addendum in verse, The Millennium , the two together being suitable for recital or cantata.
