The auction for the copyright of Bell's Life - together with all its plant - took place in Sydney on 6 October 1871.
Several weeks later, the Argus reported that: 'Bell's Life in Sydney has ceased to exist as a separate periodical, and has been incorporated with the Sydney Mail, the proprietors of which purchased the copyright this week. It is said to be their intention to chronicle in the Mail all that calls for notice in connexion with field sports and other pastimes which are worthy of record.' (Argus, 23 October 1871, p. 6)
